What Makes Out of School Time So Special?
During the school year, from the hours of 3-6pm daily, CSS OST programs provide safe, challenging, and engaging learning experiences that help children develop social, emotional, physical and academic skills. Throughout the summer months, the programs support working families by offering places for their children to participate in recreational activities and academic reinforcement to help them avoid the Summer Learning-Loss. CSS OST Programs are devoted to building stronger communities throughout the City of Philadelphia.
STEM. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education teaches vital skills in problem solving, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking that youth need to compete in future careers. Our afterschool programs offer Robotics, Urban Gardening, 3D Modeling, Film Making, and iPad Instruction.
THE ARTS. Philadelphia youth build their skills and discover new talents in various arts programming at after school and summer programs in visual and performing arts, including Dance, Sewing, Painting, and Bucket Drumming.
ACADEMIC REINFORCEMENT. Through a partnership with the Free Library of Philadelphia, our sites provide literacy coaches for reading and writing support. Our staff also provides assistance with daily homework, and offers Summer Bridge Activities when school is out to avoid Summer Learning Loss.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES. Through a partnership and staff development with The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, our programs encourage kids to be healthy and active.
ENGAGING FAMILIES. Families are welcomed to participate in the Strengthening Families Program, which focuses on children ages 10-14, and the Nurturing Parenting Program, which focuses on children in grades K-5. Family events and Family Nights are also held on various occasions.
